Identifying Gender with Foclóir.ie
In Irish nouns are either masculine or feminine.
Nouns can mostly be identified by their endings. There are certain rules we follow when determining the gender of a noun.
In Irish, there are always exceptions to these rules which is why it is advised to always confirm the gender using www.foclóir.ie when in doubt.
Foclóir.ie is an English-Irish dictionary.
Nouns that are masculine will have the abbreviation masc beside it.

Nouns that are feminine will have the abbreviation fem beside it.

Note: They will generally have a number at the end with relates to declensions. We will discuss declensions in more detail at a later stage.
